Please note: Each class is unique, and we do not guarantee that all topics mentioned on our course outlines will be covered in every class. It's our philosophy that to a large degree, participants get maximum value from a class when they are well prepared for the experience, and have access to the software they were instructed on in order to practice post-training. Participants are encouraged to communicate their primary objectives on our pre-class questionnaire. We do not guarantee that all objectives on the questionnaire will be covered, and refunds are not available if a particular objective is not met. Please view our retake policy on our FAQ page.

Please note: Not all classes listed on this pager are currently available as publicly scheduled classes. Please refer to our Course Schedule page for a list of what classes are currently availble for enrollment at our Princeton NJ training center.

Advanced Digital Photography - 2 Day Class ($945)

2-Day Workshop combining camera and digital post-production techniques and best practices. We will explore basic photo techniques and go on a 2-hr. photo excursion nearby in Princeton each day. The rest of the 2 days will be spent learning best practices to work on the photos you captured, in either Photoshop CS5, Photoshop Elements 9, or Lightroom 3. Workshop is taught by Steve Weinrebe - author, photographer, Certified Photoshop Instructor, and faculty member at the Maine Media Workshops.

Prerequisites: Students must have a digital camera with manual adjustments, preferably a DSLR, and some experience taking pictures. Students should be somewhat familiar with Adobe Photoshop's, Lightroom's, or Elements' tools and features, or have taken the Photoshop or Lightroom Intro class. Knowledge of shutter speed and f:stop would be helpful but are not required as we will be discussing those issues at length during the course.

Course intent: This class is designed for students that have to produce the highest quality photographs possible with their equipment, and while having some limited experience want to be able to achieve excellent photographs for personal use, fine art or commercial art, assignments, documentation, print, or web. During the class the fundamentals of photography will be reviewed with emphasis on digital workflow, including post-production in Photoshop or Lightroom. Camera skills and computer post-production will be discussed.

Course description: This 2-day course provides a solid foundation in photography and the role both the camera and Photoshop plays in workflow - for print or web. The class is somewhat customized to student needs and interests and is open to digital photographers using either Photoshop, Lightroom, or Elements. Curriculum concentrates on: Day 1 - Camera operation and photographic principles including proper exposures using f-stops and shutter speed, and ISO, to control exposure, and focus, composition, lens and other camera operations and menu items, low light and daylight shooting, camera related techniques for product or people/portrait photography; Day 2 - Input and Output including RAW image processing using Photoshop (Camera Raw or Lightroom), metadata, compression, image size vs. resolution, labeling and sorting, file organization, retouching, color management, output to web or print. Wherever possible the course is customized to the students particular goals, and the curriculum will vary. Through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on work, students learn the tools to fulfill their photography needs, and advance their skills and careers. Students leave the workshop with new-found knowledge and a solid understanding of photography from camera to computer to print or web.

Topics Include the following, but are subject to change depending on student needs and experience level:

Prerequisites: Students must have a digital camera with manual adjustments, and some experience taking pictures. Students should be somewhat familiar with Adobe Photoshop's tools and features, or have taken the Photoshop Intro class. Knowledge of shutter speed and f:stop would be helpful but are not required as we will be discussing those issues at length during the course.

Course intent: This class is designed for students that have to produce the highest quality photographs possible with their equipment, and while having some limited experience want to be able to achieve excellent photographs for assignments, documentation, print, or web. During the class the fundamentals of photography will be reviewed with emphasis on digital workflow, including post-production in Photoshop. Camera skills and computer post-production will be discussed.

Course description: This 3-day course provides a solid foundation in photography and the role both the camera and Photoshop plays in workflow - for print or web. The class is customized to your workgroup's needs and photographic tasks. Mixed needs are typical and can be handled within the structure of the 3 days. Curriculum concentrates on: Day 1 - Camera operation and photographic principles including proper exposures using f-stops and shutter speed, and ISO, to control exposure, and focus, composition, lens and other camera operations and menu items, low light and daylight shooting, camera related techniques for product or people/portrait photography; Day 2 - Lighting including lighting for products, people, mixed lighting, outdoors, and any other scenario the students typically need to light; Day 3 - Input and Output including RAW processing using Photoshop (Camera Raw or Lightroom), metadata, compression, image size vs. resolution, labeling and sorting, file organization, retouching, color management, output to web or print. Wherever possible the course is customized to the students particular goals, and the curriculum will vary. Through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on work, students learn the tools to fulfill their photography needs, and advance their skills and careers. Students leave the master class with new found knowledge and a solid understanding of photography from camera to computer to print or web.
